The heroic Selma EMS Crew that responded to the wreck Freddie was a victim of; decided that Freddie needed to go to WakeMed's Trauma 1 Center, the area’s best equipped place for the severity of his injuries. It was a stormy day with tornado warnings so air flight was out of the question. The 911 call they received indicated that there was one fatality and one injury at this wreck. They thought they had the injury when they got Freddie loaded up; until they communicated with the other responding EMS unit. That no; they had the one who was severely hurt. Then one of them said to the driver; "let's go, drive it like you stole it". This EMS team rushed Freddie about 35 miles in nasty weather to get Freddie to WakeMed in Wake County in an effort to save his life.
